Walter "Jerry" Bird
Jerry Bird is the vice-president of Massachusetts Development Technology Corporation (MTDC). He is responsible for generating investment opportunities, reviewing business plans, interviewing entrepreneurs, identifying marketable technologies and making new and follow-on investments. MTDC is a leading edge venture capital firm that addresses the "capital gap" for start-up and expansion of early-stage technology companies operating in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. MTDC has invested in many of Massachusetts' most promising new technology-based companies. He has over 19 years of investing and financial experience. Before joining MTDC Mr. Bird was a venture partner at Brook Venture partners. Prior to that he had been President of the Boston-based venture capital firm Claflin Capital Management. Jerry graduated with a B.A. degree from Dartmouth College in 1980 and received his MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth in 1986. He is also a board member and past chairman of Crossroads for Kids, Trustee of Mass Audubon Society. He has been a director of the Red Acre Foundation and the Merwin Free Clinic for Animals since 1986. He lives in Andover, MA, with his wife and three children.
