Parks for People-Bay Area

Less than half of all Bay Area children 15 years old and younger live within walking distance of a park. For these children, outdoor play spaces are streets and vacant lots—and that's if they get outside at all.

TPL works closely with communities, offering full suite of expertise
TPL works closely with neighborhood residents and others in park-deprived communities to hep improve and create parks. In each project, TPL helps with the planning, funding; and renovation management processes from design through construction; and assists communities with park stewardship planning.

San Francisco: a current Bay Area program focus
We're revitalizing three urban parks over the next three years in San Francisco neighborhoods that will benefit most.

• Hayes Valley Playground - this 1/4-acre inner city playground and recreation center is located in Hayes Valley, an economically diverse neighborhood challenged by a lack of functioning community centers. A community-driven design for the playground and recreation center are helping to ensure that improvements reflect the local neighborhood's interests and character. MORE
• Balboa Park - this 25-acre park with citywide draw is located in the Excelsior district, which has the highest population of children per capita and a severe lack of neighborhood parks. The community has asked TPL to upgrade existing amenities and unify the park with a trail system. MORE
• Boeddeker Park - this 1-acre site is the largest park in San Francisco's most densely populated neighborhood, the Tenderloin. Its current design makes it an inhospitable and unsafe place for children to play. TPL will rebuild the playground and clubhouse according to the community-driven design process. MORE
