2008 Awards Application
First, review Awards Eligibility & Criteria to see if your county's program is eligible.
Applications must be completed electronically and submitted to the website by 5pm EST Wednesday December 5, 2007. You will need to create an account/login to complete the online application form.
The electronic application consists of Summary Information and a Narrative. A strong Narrative will provide an overview of the program and its objectives, a description of the community's needs and how the program was designed to fulfill them, and a summary of the program's benefits. Narratives may be written in a word processing application such as Microsoft Word and pasted into the appropriate fields on the website. Narratives may not exceed 1,500 words.

Please address the following points. The total length is not to exceed 1,500 words and must be pasted into the appropriate field on the application website.
- Describe overall anticipated benefits to the community and the environment.
- Briefly describe how parks and land conservation program objectives were established.
- Describe any outstanding leadership role played by a county official.
- Provide details on any element of the program that is unique or innovative.
- Describe the type of funding mechanism for acquiring land or conservation easements, (i.e. general funds, bonds, dedicated tax), the amount raised (include the tax rate and duration, or bond amount), and the total public funds.
- Explain how this program leverages external funding from federal, state or private sources.
- Please indicate whether the program encourages local land conservation programs by making grants or offering matching funds to municipalities within the county.
- Describe the reach and scope of the planning or visioning process for the program and whether implementation priorities were identified.
- Provide information of any public or private partnerships developed to further the program's goals. The partnerships could range from relationships with other jurisdictions to formal or informal affiliations with various public agencies or private businesses or nonprofits.
- Clarify the implementation status of the program, in particular how much land has been protected to date (in fee or easement), how many parks have been created or expanded, dollars spent by the program, and how the parcels acquired relate to program goals and vision.
- Please explain how the broader community was informed of this program and describe methods for cultivating public support and awareness. Please provide details regarding the ongoing constituency management and outreach methods used.
- Explain the techniques being used to build trust with the community at large, in particular discuss strategies for promoting management transparency.
