Touisset Wildlife Refuge, RI
The Touisset Wildlife Refuge consists of 460 beautiful acres of open space, coastal and rural land, situated between Mount Hope Bay and Warren River, where two small communities originated in the early 1900s. This beautiful area is being threatened by development. An 18-lot subdivision is planned only 100 feet away from the northern edge of the Touisset Wildlife Refuge, a 67-acre, little-known bird sanctuary. Local citizen groups are fighting to preserve as much open space as possible, but Warren is a small community with limited funds. We are currently diligently working to preserve our working waterfront, and Touisset is likely to fall to the wayside in the process.
