Program Associate (Job #1167)

The Center for City Park Excellence (CCPE) is a research, education and advocacy division of The Trust for Public Land. Its mission is to help make cities more successful through the renewal and creation of parks for their social, ecological and economic benefits to residents and visitors alike.

CCPE is seeking a Program Associate to generate, analyze, and publicize data regarding the park systems of the major U.S. cities. Specifically the work will include overseeing the annual collection of information from the major city park departments and publicizing the results via electronic and printed reports. The position will also involve:

  • Carrying out contracted studies of the economic value of select urban park systems;
  • Responding to queries and conducting studies as requested, for both internal and external audiences;
  • Serving as needed on cross-regional and cross-functional TPL teams dealing with urban park issues;
  • Conducting other research and writing on an as-needed basis, including writing for fundraising proposals; and
  • Writing and summarizing articles for the City Parks Blog.

We are seeking a college graduate, preferably with training in economics, who is excellent with numbers and who is also an excellent writer. The position requires attention to detail, excellent record-keeping ability and a willingness to use the telephone for follow-up with data collection. A knowledge of and interest in urban planning and of park history is a strong plus. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access and Word is required; knowledge of other economic software programs is a plus.

This full-time position is based in Washington, D.C. It involves a relatively small amount of travel, approximately 3-4 trips per year.
