Saving Working Lands

Family farms and ranches provide food, support local economies, and make up some of the most beautiful working landscapes. But in many locations, farms and ranches are disappearing—sold to pay taxes or finance a farmer's retirement.

Family farming requires long hours and hard work. Still, most ranchers and farmers love the land and the rural way of life they have practiced for decades. Sadly, selling the land often seems to be their only option.

Over the years, The Trust for Public Land has earned a national reputation for helping farmers and ranchers save their land and continue their way of life. Conservation easements keep farmers farming and ranchers ranching while preventing development forever.

The time has never been better for saving family farms and ranches. As a result of the recent real estate downturn, conservation funding goes further—so TPL can help more farm and ranch families grow food for all of us and stay on the land they love. That's why there has never been a better time to support our work.
