Parks Under Siege from Development

Virtually no city in the country has been able to preserve every acre of its parkland from being developed in some way. Highways, police horse stables, sports arenas, shopping centers, hospitals, schools, parking lots, museums and more are encroaching on urban parks from Miami to Long Beach. This article looks at how cities have allowed, mitigated or put an end to losing parkland, providing stories of success and failure.
