The Trust for Public Land, in conjunction with Door County, the Town of Liberty Grove and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, has been selected as a recipient of a Wisconsin Chapter of the Nature Conservancy's 2000 Conservation Partner Award. TPL took a lead role in building a coalition to expand a scenic park overlooking Green Bay in northern Door County. The cliffs along the property offer extraordinary views and is part of the Niagara Escarpment, a limestone formation that extends from New York and runs parallel to the western shore of Door County. The funding for the acquisition includes a $1.55 million Wisconsin Stewardship Program grant approved by the Wisconsin Legislature as well as contributions from Door County, the town of Liberty Grove, TPL, the Nature Conservancy and other private donations. This project is part of TPL's Northwoods Initiative, a program serving communities with their efforts to protect the forests, lakes and rivers in northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
