Davis County, UT

I love farmland, any farmland. But most especially I love the farmland that of my ancestors, the rich, productive soils of west Davis County. Nestled between the Wasatch Front on the east and the Great Salt Lake on the west, these lands provided provided not only security and peace for the pioneer settlers, but literally sustained their lives. Through faith and industry, they made this desert land blossom as a rose.

I believe the reason the soils in this valley are extremely unique and fertile is because God made them so. Nearly anything can be grown in this area, and unfortunately, we are now growing mostly homes on these beautiful lands. The endless straight rows of cultivated fields of my childhood were a unifier between me and my grandpa as we rode his motorcycle for miles and compared farmers' fields. Grandpa's old Allis Chalmers tractor was a very familiar seat from which I viewed my childhood world. The smells of freshly turned sod, the sounds of gulls following the furrows in search of a meal, and the warmth of sunshine on my back are sweet, precious memories. I'm truly grateful for the land legacy left to me in Davis County. It has "rooted" me physically and spiritually to the good earth.
