TPL's free online conservation finance course, hosted at the University of Southern Maine's Environmental Finance Center, is a comprehensive source of information on how all levels of governments fund land conservation. The course reviews the primary funding options used by federal, state, and local governments, with a particular focus on the state public policy framework that underpins conservation. Since most conservation finance takes place at the local level, a significant area of the course's focus will be on how local governments can create conservation funding.

Lessons include:

  • Feasibility research
  • Measure design
  • Role of public opinion polling
  • Case studies
