Land Use and Drinking Water Treatment Costs
October 1, 2008
Revisiting a study conducted in 2004, TPL released a white paper in September 2008 that brings new data and methodologies to study the impact of the decline of forest cover and the increase of agriculture or urban land cover in a drinking water source drainage area. The report examines both the impact on water quality for this drinking water source as well as drinking water treatment costs.
The statistical analyses showed there were significant relationships between drinking water treatment costs, land cover types, and source water quality. Download the report below. 30 pages (2008)
