Nestled below Michigan's Sturgeon River Gorge Wilderness Area is the Prickett Lake watershed. This land is beloved for hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing—it's immediately upstream from one of the region's last remaining spawning areas for threatened lake sturgeon.
The Trust for Public Land has added more than 4,000 acres to the wilderness area, including more than a thousand acres around Prickett Lake. In 2014, a final 175 acres completed the conservation effort and ensured permanent public access to the river, lake, and North Country National Scenic Trail.
