Clatsop Butte Park

In 2007, 27 acres on Clatsop Butte in Southeast Portland were slated for a housing subdivision. The land, which contains a largely unbroken forest of alders and cedars and other native plants, provides spectacular views and protects the water quality of the nearby Johnson Creek watershed, the most urbanized creek in the region. But when the housing market took a downturn in early 2010, TPL had a chance to purchase and protect the property as city parkland. Helping a broad team of local agencies and community groups to conserve the land and transfer it into public ownership was an important milestone in the formation of The Intertwine Alliance.
