Finalists Named for Atlanta’s Cox Conserves Heroes Program, Public Asked to Vote

The Trust for Public Land (TPL), in partnership with Channel 2 WSB-TV, today announced the finalists for Atlanta's fourth annual Cox Conserves Heroes awards. A total of $15,000 will be donated to local environmental nonprofits on behalf of the winner and finalists.
The three finalists have each have secured a $2,500 donation for their nonprofits of choice, and are now competing for an additional $7,500, bringing the total donation on behalf of the winner to $10,000.
The winner will be chosen through an online public vote beginning today and running through October 29.

Atlanta's Cox Conserves Heroes finalists (environmental nonprofit of choice):
- DeBorah Williams: R.E.D.E.E.M Community Outreach
- Donna Shearer: Save Georgia's Hemlocks
- Earl Williamson: Kirkwood Neighbors Organization
Atlanta's Cox Conserves Hero will be announced on November 15.
The finalists were selected by a judging panel of local environmental leaders, including:
- 2011 Cox Conserves Hero Na'Taki Osborne-Jelks
- 2010 Cox Conserves Hero Angel Poventud
- 2009 Cox Conserves Hero Don Wells
- Sustainable Atlanta's Executive Director Suzanne Burnes
- Southface's Chief Operating Officer Michael Halicki
- EarthShare of Georgia's Executive Director Madeline Reamy
- Environmental Protection Agency's Sustainable Communities/ Partnerships Lead Camilla Warren
- Georgia Environmental Finance Authority's Land Conservation Program Manager Andrew Szwak
The following Metro Atlanta organizations have received financial support from the Cox Conserves Heroes program: Elachee Nature Science Center, Georgia Organics, Historic Fourth Ward Park Conservancy, Johns Creek Community Wildlife Habitat, Keeping It Wild, Mountain Stewards, Park Pride, Sustainable Norcross, Trees Atlanta, and the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance. Donations from Cox Conserves Heroes has helped build trails, plant trees, provide environmental education, maintain parks, as well as create outdoor classrooms and certified wildlife habitats at area schools.
