The Trust for Public Land today announced it has donated 22 acres of land to expand the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. The land, worth $1.45 million and located at the foot of the historic Rogers Bridge in Johns Creek, protects more than 850 feet of the Chattahoochee and will be the future anchor for National Park Service trails and green space.

First Selectman Fillmore McPherson signed a conservation easement to permanently protect 20.6 acres of the former Griswold Airport land from development. The legal document helps ensure the most ecologically sensitive land along the Hammonasett River, salt marshes, and coastal grassland will be conserved, and allows for passive recreation, such as hiking and birdviewing.

The Trust for Public Land announces the opening of the new Rock of Ages Trail, located about 15 miles southwest of Telluride, Colorado. Opening this 3.7-mile hiking trail concludes a seven-year effort by the Forest Service and other organizations to restore public access to Wilson Peak, a popular "fourteener" in the Lizard Head Wilderness.

The popular Camp Conowingo in Cecil County, Maryland, has been permanently protected, The Trust for Public Land, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland announced today. The Trust for Public Land facilitated the State's purchase of a conservation easement over approximately 577 acres of the camp, restricting future uses on the site to protect the property's standing forests and Conowingo Creek, a Susquehanna River tributary.
