Eliza Townsend

Eliza Townsend is the Executive Director of the Maine Women’s Lobby and the Maine Women’sPolicyCenter.  She brings extensive professional experience to these organizations, along with a strong record of working collaboratively with a wide range of people. 

Eliza representedPortlandfor four terms in the Maine House of Representatives.  During her legislative tenure, she was a member of the Human Resources Committee, the Appropriations & Financial Affairs committee, and she served as the House Chair of Appropriations, during which time she helped to establish the Fund for a Healthy Maine.  Eliza then became the first Executive Director of the Maine League of Conservation Voters, a position she held for six and a half years before joining the Maine Department of Conservation, first as Deputy Commissioner and later as Commissioner.  She led the department’s Take it Outside initiative, an effort to reconnect children and families to with the outdoors. 

In addition to her professional achievements, Eliza has served on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Casco Bay, volunteered with the Cumberland County Budget Advisory Committee, and served as a grant writer for the Portland Skatepark Committee.  Eliza is a graduate ofMcGillUniversity, inMontreal,Quebecand holds a Master of Fine Arts in Drama fromCarnegie-MellonUniversity.  She has two sons and lives inPortland.
