Susan Merrow

Susan Merrow of East Haddam served her town as First Selectwoman from 1991-2003. During this time, she also served on the Board of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, of which she was president for one year. She volunteered in many capacities for the Sierra Club during the 1970s and 80s, joining the Sierra Cub national Board of Directors in 1985. She served as its President in 1990 - 91. She volunteers currently with the Sierra Club?s Leadership Development Program as a chapter mentor, and serves on the boards of the Connecticut River Watershed Council, the Eightmile River Wild and Scenic Coordinating Committee, and the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters. Ms. Merrow was appointed by Governor Lowell Weicker as Co-Chair of the Connecticut Greenways Committee. She is the author of One for the Earth: Journal of a Sierra Club President, and currently works as a lobbyist at the Connecticut State Capitol for several non-profit organizations. She and her husband of 42 years live in an old farm, which is home to two retired horses. She earned a BA from Tufts University. (Member since 1996.)
