Karin J. Birkeland
Ms. Birkeland was a partner in the commercial real estate practice at Faegre & Benson until 1995. From 1995 until 1998 she was an Associate General Counsel at the University of Minnesota overseeing large construction projects. Since retiring from the practice of law, Ms. Birkeland has served on many non-profit boards and has been active in the community. She has served on the boards of The Minnesota Center for Photography, the Minnesota Women's Campaign Fund/womenwinning, the Plymouth Congregational Church Outreach Board, the Hennepin Theater Trust, Planned Parenthood of Minnesota/South Dakota, the Hennepin County Bar Foundation (as president), Volunteer Lawyers Network, the University of Minnesota Law School Board of Advisors, MOAPPP (Minnesota Organization on Adolescent Pregnancy, Prevention and Parenting), the Trust for Public Land and WATCH, a court monitoring organization (as board chair). Ms. Birkeland also served on the Obama for America Minnesota Finance Committee (2007-2008) and as a National Finance Committee Trustee (2011-12). Ms. Birkeland graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota (Phi Beta Kappa) and received her J.D., magna cum laude, order of the coif, from the University of Minnesota Law School.
