"All of us at Federal Street are committed to building a sustainable business that will serve our clients for many generations. One of our most important advisory roles is helping clients with their own transitions to the next generation, and we're practicing what we preach. ... Federal Street's top management is dynamic and creative, and our clients continue to get the personal attention of senior advisors with many decades of experience."
As President of Federal Street, Jen Murtie has leadership responsibility for corporate matters, business practices, financial performance, strategic planning and marketing and business development. In her first ten years at Federal Street Advisors, she served as Office Administrator, Business Manager, Director of Foundation Services, Director of Client Services and then as COO. Jen was recently named a "Rising Star" in the wealth management and family office industry by Private Asset Management (PAM) magazine.
Having worn so many hats has given Jen a unique perspective on Federal Street's philosophy and strengths. "We select people from diverse backgrounds with the right personality and culture fit, and then we give them the opportunity to grow and broaden their skill set. Not only does that make for a motivated and happy work force, but it means that our clients deal with people who are deeply interested and involved in the big picture. No one is pigeon holed here, and that results in exceptional service and client relationships."
She notes that the recent leadership transition at Federal Street has opened up exciting new growth opportunities for the entire team. What excites Jen about her current role as President is the opportunity to help the business continue to evolve in a way that facilitates FSA's exceptional advice and service. Known for her diplomacy, creativity and level headedness, her new role is a good fit.
Prior to joining Federal Street, Jen spent six years working at The Moriah Fund in Washington DC. She worked with the single family office and served as the foundation's Administrative Director, where she oversaw the day-to-day operations of the organization. Passionate about philanthropy, she serves on the Advisory Council of The Haiti Fund, the Investment Committee of the Fair Food Fund - Northeast, Massachusetts Advisory Board of The Trust for Public Land, and Professional Advisors Committee of the Boston Foundation. She is a member of the Boston Estate Planning Council. In the fall of 2007, Jen took a six week paid sabbatical from Federal Street Advisors to consult on a clean water project in Ghana. She was also the winner in the 2007 Silverman Business Plan Competition with her business proposal to create an ecotourism consulting company focused on sustainable economic development in Africa.
Jen received her BA in sociology and international relations from Houghton College and obtained her MBA from the Simmons School of Management.
